_1. As a child, we had family friends that would come over and practice yoga in our living room. I think that is where my interest in yoga was first sparked. In my twenties, I went through a long period of pain and a tough recovery due to an illness. I believe that is w the practice of therapeutic yoga that saved me and truly aided my recovery. After my recovery and due to my experience with yoga, I decided to focus my studies on yoga for children with disabilities. I am certain that my yoga practice has helped shape me to be the person I am today. I feel blessed that every day I am able to bring the gift of yoga into the lives of children. 2. I love tennis. I also enjoy spending time with my friends, family and 2 amazing cats: Adibisi and Hatoli. I studied film theory and mass communication as an undergrad. I am a TV and movie junkie.
3. Something no one knows...I still have a teddy bear, that I often talk to, grandpa bear. I was young when my grandfather was sick and someone gave him a get well soon bear that I loved to play with when I visited him. At his funeral, my grandma had the bear on the steps waiting for me. I used to take him everywhere with me to be sure he was always around. I still talk to grandpa bear when I need some advice and wisdom. While he stays at home most days, he always travels with me when I go out of town.
4. My favorite music would have to depend on my mood. I love a good dance party in my car when I am driving alone. I absolutely love the Beastie Boys!! I like a little of everything. In my kids-teens classes you will often hear music from Karma Kids Yoga and MC Yogi.
5. Favorite books, that is tough for me. I absolutely love to read. I often read yoga blogs:kids yoga, yoga, spiritual. I enjoy training manuals and philosophy books, anything that will help me grow as a student and teacher. One of the hardest and incredible reads was, Yoga and the Quest for the True Self, by Stephen Cope. My favorite book of all times is a children's book with a great message. I still read as a reminder when I am feeling down or starting my story of comparing myself to others. This book is, Alexander and the No Good, Terrible, Horrible, Very Bad Day, by Judith Viorst. "Some days are like that, even in Australia" 6. I am always working on going deeper in to poses and gaining strength. I would love to be able to do a handstand in the middle of the room and hold it. I love vashisthasana, side plank. I like a good challenge and can find that it almost any pose. At 5 Points, I teach children's and family yoga. I sub adult classes and also specialize in teaching kids-adults with disabilities.
